Responsible & Safe Conduct in the Information Commons

The Library supports study, research and learning.   Please respect and maintain a low noise level in the Information Commons to give your fellow students the opportunity to concentrate.

There are designated areas such as Ferdi’s coffee Shop where you may eat and drink.  The Information Commons has a strict no food policy.  Only bottled water is allowed.

In accordance with the vision and mission of the Library, the Information Commons supports academic activities.  The Information Commons provides access to 90 computers to be utilized for academic and scholarly activities.  Undergraduate students engaging the library's computer and network facilities for non-academic purposes (playing games, watching movies, Facebook and YouTube for recreational purposes) will be referred to the many computer facilities provided by IT @ NWU.

One person per workstation is allowed in the Information Commons.  Group discussions and high noise levels deprive fellow-students of their right to concentrate, study, learn and do research.  Students are encouraged to book one of the many seminar rooms available for group discussions.

The Library adheres to the following NWU University Regulations:

Policy on the responsible use of information and communication technology, networks and information resources at the North-West University

Rules and guidelines for the use of computer facilities @ NWU
